Public Education
Why Public Education?
People need to learn to protect themselves, their family members, and others from the hazards of fire. They need to learn to be responsible for the protection of their own property as well as the property of others. The overall goals of the Greater Sudbury Fire Services are to reduce the number of deaths and severity of injuries to people caused by fires and to reduce the number of fires and the extent of property damage that result from fires.
Individuals must have sufficient information to be able to respond promptly and effectively when confronted with fire, and to act to prevent fires from occurring. However, just having information does not assure effective action. Learning must be reinforced through the acquisition of attitudes which will aid in the appropriate behavior.
