Town Centre C.I.P. Initiative

The City of Greater Sudbury has developed a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for Town Centres within the City of Greater Sudbury. Copper Cliff DowntownThe Plan aims to identify challenges facing Town Centres and develop strategies to further their economic development, physical improvement and to promote private sector investment.

The City of Greater Sudbury's Town Centre Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Initiative

The purpose of this CIP is to:
Photo of a Levack Business • Enhance pedestrian friendly commercial areas to attract people and new business;
• Address commercial and residential vacancy issues by improving the building stock; and
• Rehabilitate older, mixed used (and preferably multi storey) building stock and to promote the creation of additional residential dwelling units.

Where does it apply?
The Town Centre CIP applies to certain properties within the town centres of Capreol, Chelmsford, Levack, Flour Mill Business Improvement Area (BIA), Lively, Copper Cliff and Kathleen Street.

Who is eligible to participate?
Aerial photo of Lively Town CentreProperty owners located within the identified Town Centre CIP areas are eligible to participate. Please contact the City of Greater Sudbury Planning Services Division to verify if your property is eligible.

What incentives are available?
Five financial incentive programs are available under the Town Centre Community Improvement Plan to help stimulate rehabilitation and redevelopment in the applicable Town Centres. The available programs are:

• Tax Increment Financing Program
• Planning and Building Fees Rebate Program
• Feasibility Study Grant
• Facade Improvement Grant Program
• Building Improvement Loan Program

How do I apply?
Chelmsford Town Centre photoInterested applicants are encouraged to contact the City of Greater Sudbury Planning Services Division to arrange for a pre-consultation meeting. Applicants may also complete and return the Financial Incentives for Town Centre Community Improvement Plan application form or the Tax Increment Financing application form to Kris Longston at the coordinates listed below. All applications will be reviewed by staff and are subject to Council approval.
