In 1973 the newly formed Regional Municipality of Sudbury created a 'Technical Tree Planting Committee' which in 1978 officially changed its name to V.E.T.A.C., the Vegetation Enhancement Technical Advisory Committee, to better reflect its broadened mandate.

VETAC is committed to enhancing and sustaining a healthy environment for residents of the City of  Greater Sudbury through the restoration and protection of our air, land and water.  Recently a Communications sub-committee of VETAC was formed and has been actively working to broaden awareness about healthy, natural environments through the development of promotional, marketing and educational tools and activities.
