André Rivest

ANDRÉ RIVEST - COUNCILLOR WARD 6

Rivest

Born in Sudbury in 1966, André, a life-long resident of Greater Sudbury, has lived most of his life in the former City of Valley East area.  He attended École Secondaire Hanmer (Hanmer High School) before completing 4 years at Laurentian University in Chemistry.  He also attended Cambrian College and achieved a Certificate in Municipal Administration with the AMCTO Designation.

André began his political career, being elected in 1991 for the Town of Valley East, becoming Councillor for Ward 5 (the Village of Hanmer).  He was 24.  Having served until 1997, he was best known for his involvement on the proposed Barrydowne extension issue.  He was then re-elected in 2003 to Ward 3 and in 2006 to the present Ward 6.

André has been community minded for many years, being a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus (5005) in Hanmer.  He has served as Deputy Grand Knight for a 2 year period, in 1996 and 1997.  He is an avid piano player!  Go ahead, ask him to play "Down Yonder".

His employment history includes being a long-time co-worker in the family owned business R. Rivest Haulage, a past Canadian Pacific Railway employee in Signals and Communications, and a former substitute teacher in Mathematics and Science for the then Sudbury Board of Education.

André is fluently bilingual and is known as a diligent charactered Councillor, concerned with the trend in accountability and of fiscal efficiency.  His leadership centers on fairness and equality for all inhabitants he represents.
