Ministry of Education - Early Learning

On June 15, 2009, Dr. Pascal presented his report, 'With Our Best Future in Mind: Implementing Early Learning in Ontario”. The report contains 20 recommendations on how to introduce full-day learning to Ontario students, how to improve education for children up to 12-years-old and how to increase supports for young families.

Ontario will provide a full day of learning to 4 and 5 year olds as part of the province's plan to build a stronger school system and a well-educated workforce. The program will be phased-in over time, starting in September 2010.

Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development

The Centre of Excellence for Early Childhood Development is a Canadian organization that creates information sheets for parents and services providers on a variety of topics including child care, parenting, breast feeding, etc. They have created the 'Encyclopedia on Early Childhood Development” which covers 37 topics of interest on children from conception to age five.

Children's Information Portal

The Children's Information Portal site brings together information about all the children and youth programs and services provided by the Government of Ontario.

ChildCareLearning.on.ca

The Day Nurseries Act for Child Care Supervisors of Ontario website is designed to help child care supervisors better understand licensing requirements under the Day Nurseries Act. While this website is intended for program supervisors and staff in licensed child care program across Ontario, it can be accessed by operators, early childhood educators, program staff, parents and anyone who is interested in learning more about licensed child care.

 

Physical Activty Resource Guide for Child Care Centres

In 2009, Children Services developed a summer program to increase the level of physical activity for older children in child care settings. The Physical Activity Resources Guide has been developed and includes warm ups, moderate to vigorous physical activities for limited spaces and outdoors, cool downs, stretches and other fun active ideas. The guide also includes resources from websites for anyone interested in a wide variety of other games and activities.
